Read One Crazy Summer last year. Good for kids to learn about time period they probably know nothing about. Took me a few chapters to appreciate.
I adore One Crazy Summer. I suspect there's an intentional rhythm to it. You're a tad unsettled as the characters are unsettled, coming into a new place where they don't feel welcome. Then the story folds you in, page after page.
